Charles Despins is Director of Faculty Affairs, Research Partnerships of the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS). Dr. Despins holds a Doctorate and a Master’s degree in electrical engineering from Carleton University and a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from McGill University. His research activities focus mainly on information and communication technologies (ICT), and in particular, on wireless networks. Before joining ÉTS, he was a professor at INRS-Télécommunications. He also worked in the ICT industry for many years, including as Vice-President and Chief Technology Officer of the Groupe Bell Nordiq, Senior Director of Technology Development at Microcell Telecommunications and consultant to the Telesystem Group during the expansion of wireless networks in India and China. He started his career at CAE Electronics and most recently served as CEO of Prompt Inc. A Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada, he frequently speaks about the role of ICT as a preferred vehicle for sustainable development. In 1993, he received the award for best article of the year in IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Transactions on Vehicular Technology. He is a member of the Engineering Institute of Canada and, in 2006, he received the Award of Excellence in Engineering from IEEE Canada.
